  • Is there a dress code? What should I wear?
For ages 2-5 there are no uniforms to purchase or special dress codes! For ages 6-13 students can wear any style of Hixon Dance shirt or top with any athletic style bottoms preferred. Students are also welcome to wear a leotard if they prefer it. We encourage students to wear clothing they can move in comfortably and safely. For ages 2-5 bare feet or ballet shoes work best. For ages 6-13+ students should have bare feet for Modern or Contemporary, ballet shoes (any color or material) for Ballet, soft-soled jazz shoes (any color) for Jazz or Musical Theatre, and tap shoes (any color) for Tap. If you have questions, please reach out to us at manager@hixondance.com Students with longer hair should secure it back out of the face. Jewelry is not recommended.
  • How do I pay my fees?
When you register, you will be prompted to sign up for Autopay with a credit/debit card or ACH transaction. This is a terrific and convenient way to make sure your monthly payments are always taken care of and hassle-free! While we will accept cash or check payments, autopay is strongly preferred.
  • How do Drop-in Classes work?
Our intergenerational, teen, and adult program allows drop-in classes which provide great flexibility for your schedule. To register in advance, go to your Portal, select the class you would like to take and select the dates you plan to attend. You can also register when you arrive with the front desk staff. Single class drop-ins are $17 We encourage purchasing Class Cards for discounted rates! You can purchase a 4-class card for $64 or an 8-class card for $120. Class cards expire after 3 months from date of purchase. Teachers or front desk staff can "punch" your card when you arrive.
  • Do you have any discounts?
Yes! Families with more than one student, or who take more than one class, can receive a 5-15% discount.
  • I've never danced before. What should I expect?
Don't worry, dance is one of the most fun and healthy activities you can do! We welcome you to come into the studio a few minutes before class to change if you need to, warm up, greet other dancers, or check in with our front desk staff. Classes begin with simple warm-ups that prepare your body for more complex movement while also providing you with the foundational concepts for that style. Our staff will always offer accommodations to make an exercise easier or more challenging, and we encourage students to listen to their bodies and do what feels right for them. At the end of class, there is a cool down period to bring your heart rate and breathing back to a calm state. We love ending our classes with affirmations and self-reflection!
  • What are your COVID protocols?
We value everyone's safety! Protecting the most vulnerable in our community is a priority for all of us at Hixon Dance. Each studio is equipped with a Medical Grade HEPA air purifier that is proven to remove up to 95% of all airborne contaminants as small as 0.1 microns. All high-touch surfaces are disinfected regularly, and any props or shared items are disinfected between use. Hand sanitizer is available for students and staff. We have a variety of children and adult sized disposable masks available for your use. Masking is currently optional. We respect and support every individual's decision with regard to mask wearing. We recognize that some members of our community or their families may be immunocompromised, and we want everyone to feel comfortable with their choice. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation! If you or your student feels unwell, PLEASE STAY HOME! You can always do a makeup class at a later date or take advantage of our online on demand classes. If you know that you or your student has tested positive for COVID-19, please let our staff know as soon as possible so that we can alert other students who were potentially exposed. We will never share personal information about medical conditions.
  • What performing opportunities do you have?
Students ages 3-4 will have Informal performance opportunities in the studio several times during the year. This is a great way for family and friends to see them at their best for a full class length. Students ages 5-13 will have both in-studio informal showings throughout the year as well as an end of the year Student Concert. Students ages 7-13 who participate in ChoreoLab will also have additional opportunities to perform in the community and with the Hixon Dance Company in the spring. Students who do not wish to participate in the formal performances are welcome to opt out while still fully participating in class. While young dancers can be nervous about performing, we make it as stress free and positive as possible. Children love performing on stage and it is a wonderful and unique growth opportunity. We strongly encourage all students to participate in the performance but will absolutely make accommodation for those who do not want to. Adult choreographers and dance-makers can submit their work in the Fall to the City Dance Showcase. This is an adjudicated formal performance in which all participants receive feedback on their work from experts in the field of dance, and finalists are chosen to be presented on stage. In addition to the public performances, Finalists receive an honorarium and a professional video of their work.
