Sarah H: What are you looking forward to in your third season with Hixon Dance?
Sarah P: I am looking forward to the technical rehearsal week in the theater, as I do every season. While it is the most exhausting week of the year, I find it to be the most fulfilling. There is nothing better than getting to dance every day surrounded by incredible people! Watching everyone come together—dancers, musicians, lighting designers—and bringing a new show to life is truly inspiring.
Sarah H: As an artist, what do you find fulfilling about working with Hixon Dance?
Sarah P: My favorite part of working with Hixon Dance is performing meaningful work in a company that supports my individual artistry. I also find it important to be in a company that encourages the development of my dance education, and Hixon Dance does just that. Each week we get rigorous technique classes, conditioning and more. Sometimes we even go to see other dance in the community together.
Sarah H: The company is preparing to perform A Vanishing Point in March. What are you most interested in or excited about with this production?
Sarah P: I am very excited to see our new work continue to come together over the next few weeks. The choreography process for the new piece on this program has been completely collaborative. We are developing movement from written scores, and I’ve enjoyed seeing each of my fellow dancers’ individual styles. We have been challenging each other to move in ways we normally would not. I’m also looking forward to seeing this piece come together with the live music, lights, and other theatrical elements.

Sarah H: What is something you want readers to know about you?
Sarah P: I love all things snowy! My favorite view is from the top of a frosted mountain. When I’m not dancing, you can often find me skiing and making snow angels.
Sarah H: What’s on your current playlist?
Sarah P: Lately I’ve been listening to Lana del Ray and 49 Winchester.
Sarah H: What is one of your favorite things about Columbus?
Sarah P: My favorite thing about Columbus is that there is never a lack of fun! There is always an adventure ready, rain or shine. I enjoy the sports teams and the night life. Go Bucks and go Jackets!
