Jon Lawson
Fellow Collective
Jon Lawson is an independent dance artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Performance and Choreography from Ohio University. At OhioU, Jon performed the work of Travis Gatling, Ani Javian, Lisa Moulton, Chengxin Wei, Nii Tete Yartey, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. Jon was also a member of Azaguno, an international touring traditional and contemporary African music and dance company, directed by Dr. Zelma Badu-Younge and Dr. Paschal Yao Younge, which led him to be a guest artist with The National Dance Ensemble of Ghana. His choreographic work has been presented at Ohio University, Nuit Blanche Arts Festival in Athens, Ohio, The American College Dance Association, and the OhioDance Festival. Jon has performed and choreographed with The Movement Project in Cleveland, Ohio where he also presented work in the Cleveland Dance Festival. Recently, Jon has been a collaborator with dotdotdot, a twice yearly event series in Cleveland, Ohio that works to break down barriers in the artistic community, founded by Irene Honora and Alexandra Celeste. In June 2018, he premiered a new work, My Second Time in the River, at the Jarson-Kaplan Theater in Cincinnati, Ohio as part of the Area Choreographers Festival. Jon is a cofounder of Fellow Collective, an arts collective with a mission to exhibit professional and collaborative dance based in southwestern, Ohio.
